Situated within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty this new build eco friendly family home was constructed using prefabricated SIP Panels. The house is defined by its distinctive, yet sympathetic contemporary gable ended form that takes inspiration from the local vernacular whilst using locally contextual materials such as brick, timber cladding and flint, which is combined with exposed concrete detailing for a contemporary edge.

The buildings appearance is characterised by steeply pitched interlocking gable ended forms that resonate with the local context and combine to create two main wings that are linked by the main entrance. These distinctive forms are expressed internally with vaulted ceilings across the first floor.
The entrance hall splits the two main wings and boasts a solid timber bespoke feature staircase. The staircase leads up to a bridge that connects the two main wings of the house, which spans across the double height space that the entrance hall provides.
A feature of the property is the brick and mircrocement colonnade that wraps around the house and connects into the garage block to provide a transition from the driveway, whilst offering a sense of grandeur as the house sits within its countryside setting.

As you approach the house from the north and via the long drive, you are greeted with a solid building mass which gives little clue to what is within the house. This contrasts with the south facing elevation which faces onto the large gardens. The connection to the garden is maximised by use of expansive glazing along the ground floor and the placement of all main living spaces along this side. The master bedroom on the first floor also faces south and benefits from an inset terrace over looking the garden.
This eco-friendly home was constructed using pre-fabricated SIP panels and incorporates sustainable features such as solar PV panels, air source heat pumps, mechanical ventilation heat recovery, high thermal insulation and air tight construction detailing of the highest standard.

“Michael and his team expertly managed all design stages including the tender process, selecting a reliable primary contractor. Throughout the construction phase, they oversaw the project, ensuring it stayed on track and within budget.
We were particularly impressed by their meticulous attention to detail and their commitment to keeping us informed. They handled the complexities of the planning process seamlessly and provided valuable guidance on design and material options.
We wholeheartedly recommend Michael Tarring Architects to anyone seeking a talented and dedicated architectural firm. They have exceeded our expectations and created a home we are truly proud of…”
