Set within a mixed local context of modern and traditional houses, this Net Zero Carbon new build home embodies a strong contemporary design that resonates with an architecturally diverse and changing neighbourhood whilst contributing to the character of the area.
The proposed material palette is defined by the local setting and combines white painted render, natural timber cladding, stone walling and powder coated aluminium. The use of the materials is delivered in a way to define each of the interconnected building masses into their own distinct but relatable form. The interior spaces are characterised by clean contemporary lines and minimal detailing.
Prioritising sustainability has been an underlying theme throughout the design process with passive design principles, minimal energy usage, reduced space heating demand and renewable energy generation being a key driver in the proposals. The building will use the best and most up to date technologies in construction and services design.
Passive design principles such as highly efficient thermal insulation standards and a high degree of airtightness, combined with air source heat pumps, an MVHR system and roof mounted solar PV panels ensure a high performing net zero carbon low energy home will be achieved.
