Project status: Feasibility Design
Client: Private Developer
Set within a secluded plot surrounded by mature trees and rural countryside the client's wanted to explore the possibilities of a new family home for themselves and their 4 children. Working to tight planning restrictions the proposal had to sit on the same footprint of the existing house, maintain the single storey of the existing bungalow and be of sustainable construction.
The design looked to reflect the vernacular of the local area but with a contemporary twist that focused on minimal detailing and natural materials. The clients desire was to provide a stronger connection between inside and outside to enhance the enjoyment of the large garden and beautiful surroundings . This was achieved by expansive glazing connecting the living space and a large external terrace.
Internally, the house provides a large flexible open plan living area with a kids play room that can be both connected and separated from the main living space by full height sliding screens.
Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPS) are proposed as the primary structure, along with a grey water recycling system, PV panels and natural materials, all of which contribute towards a highly sustainable design.
